Do you know ChatGPT Atlas? Imagine recreating the main window from scratch. Well, I did it.
That was the starting point - and already about 50+ iterations gone like tears in the rain. And then I started playing with it a little.
Looks almost the same, right? Well… look again.

The browser wars never really ended - they just moved from speed to intelligence.
Netscape gave us access. Chrome gave us control. And ChatGPT Atlas gave us something new entirely: a sense that the browser could think with us, not just for us.
When OpenAI introduced the OWL architecture, separating Chromium from the main app, it quietly changed what a browser could be. It became faster, modular, and agent-ready - a foundation for the next cognitive layer of computing.

Hey.. I know where this could go in next months
That idea sparked this prototype: Atlas Browser Concept. Built in v0, shaped through over 600 iterations, it started as a curiosity project - a way to imagine how Atlas might evolve if it stretched deeper into the system, closer to the user’s real context. It wasn’t planned, just vibecoded until it started to make sense.
The prototype explores how a browser could understand time, intent, and situation:
Multiple Sidebars. Switch seamlessly between parallel panels for chats, tabs, bookmarks, and AI tools - all visible without losing context. The multi-sidebar system allows you to organize your workspace efficiently with collapsible panels and segmented controls.
Customizable Interface. Adapt every element of the workspace with layout controls and resizable panels for your workflow. Customize the browser window, adjust sidebar widths, and configure the interface to match your preferences with flexible layout options. Let the browser adapts for best case scenario - or regain control and go full minimal.
Compass and AI Insights. A quiet cognitive layer surfacing what’s relevant from your system - files, meetings, notes - before you even ask. Get context-aware assistance that interprets what’s on screen, summarizes, explains, or automates the next step. The AI assistant provides reading mode enhancements, content summarization, and intelligent suggestions based on your browsing context.
Compass - because the Atlas, got it?
Simulation Scenarios. Explore 25+ guided simulations demonstrating AI-enhanced browsing, offline behavior, and adaptive system responses. Experience various use cases including meeting management, web analysis, file management, and productivity features through interactive scenarios.
That’s the most rough part and I strongly recommend Reset the Prototype after loading each scenario.
Prototype Info & Controls. Access built-in system documentation, technology overview, and design system references from the user menu - or reset the entire prototype to its default state. View comprehensive documentation, explore the technology architecture, examine the design system, and manage prototype settings.
OWL… but for your OS
The newer vision takes ChatGPT Atlas’ contextual awareness - seen in its ability to detect open documents, calendar events, or clipboard contents - and imagines it moving even closer to the OS.
Think of it as OWL extended into macOS integration: a browser that knows you’re writing a report, copying data, or heading to a meeting, and quietly prepares what you’ll need.
It could preload your notes before a Zoom call. Summarize the last thread before you rejoin the team. Check your travel time to the next meeting and suggest when to leave. It’s not automation - it’s anticipation. A browser that’s one step ahead. And in most cases - it’s right.
All of this was built for fun, out of fascination with what comes after the OWL foundation - not to compete with ChatGPT Atlas, but to imagine where it might go if we let curiosity lead.
Play with it. Gently.

What do I plan to do next?
Well, I’ll probably tweak the simulation scenarios from the interface perspective and already started working on the separate prototype for how the mobile version could work - and why it should work a little differently from it’s big internet’s brother.
